Redirects & 404s
Send visitors and search engines from an old address to a new one after moving, renaming or deleting a page, and find the broken links visitors actually hit.
- Stat cards: Redirects, Permanent, Temporary, Gone
- The redirect list with Test, Edit and Remove
- Recent 404s with a Redirect button
Adding a redirect
- Add Redirect
Old address: a path on this site, e.g.
/old-page/. Send visitors to: a path on this site or a full URL. - Choose the type
See the table below.
- Save
Save Redirect, then Save Changes to apply. Test opens the old address in a new tab.
| Type | Use it when |
|---|---|
| 301 Permanent | Moved for good; passes ranking to the new address. The usual choice. |
| 302 Temporary | Moved for now. |
| 307 Temporary | Moved for now; keeps the request method (forms). |
| 410 Gone | Removed for good, with nothing to replace it. Search engines drop it faster than a 404. |
Edit as text
Edit as Text lets you paste or edit many rules at once, one per line:
/old-page/ /new-page/ 301 /summer-sale/ /sale/ 302 /old-shop/ https://shop.example.com/ 301 /discontinued-product/ 410
Invalid lines are dropped when you save. Up to 500 redirects.
How matching works
- Exact paths only (Pro adds whole sections and patterns). The trailing slash is ignored; capitals matter.
- The visitor's query string is ignored and not passed on to the target.
- A redirect applies even if a page still exists at the old address. The home page can't be redirected.
- Redirects that point to themselves or loop are refused.
404 monitor
Keeps the 200 most recently seen missing addresses.
Recent 404s lists the most visited missing addresses with their hits, when they were last seen and the referring site. Click Redirect to prefill a redirect; fixed ones show "✓ Redirected". Clear Log empties it.
